The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Court in Abuja has set a date for the commencement of all pre-hearing sessions preceding the full hearing on applications challenging the results of the presidential election of 2023.
The Tribunal has scheduled a pre-hearing for Monday, May 8.

On Wednesday, the Secretary of the PEPT confirmed the date.
“We have set Monday of next week as the start date for all preliminary hearings before the Petition Court,” the official told reporters.
Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidates of the Labour Party and Peoples Democratic Party, respectively, have responded to all preliminary objections filed against their petitions challenging INEC’s declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner.
Moreover, in an effort to maximise time, Obi’s team requested the “issuance of pre-hearing notice” for his petition in a letter to the Secretary of the Presidential Election Court dated April 21.
In his pre-hearing notice letter to the court, Obi asked the PEPT to rule on several crucial issues in his case against INEC and Tinubu.
The court subsequently approved the letter.
As evidenced by the pre-hearing form filled out by Obi’s legal team, they seek the enforcement of court orders that, among other things, ordered INEC to release electoral materials.

Obi plans to argue the following during the pre-hearing session, according to the form seen by our correspondent: “Applications for subpoena, objections, enforcement of court order not obeyed by INEC, and other applications arising during the hearing.”
Other pre-hearing applications and responses from all petitioners and respondents will be heard.
Recall that Obi had asserted in his petition that Tinubu’s election was invalid due to alleged corrupt practises or noncompliance with the Electoral Act of 2022.
Obi also accused INEC of non-compliance with applicable laws, stating that the electoral umpire altered election results in approximately 18,000 polling units against him while refusing to use the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machine required to accredit voters and upload results in real time in accordance with the Electoral Act.
However, INEC, Tinubu, and Tinubu’s political party, the All Progressives Congress, filed objections asking the tribunal to dismiss Obi’s petition for abuse of the court system.
