‘Tinubu Dodged A Poisonous Knife’, Shehu Sani Mocks El-Rufai Over Chief Of Staff, SGF Slots

Shehu Sani, a former senator who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, ridiculed the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday for missing out on recent appointments made by President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu appointed George Akume, a former governor of Benue State, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Femi Gbajabiamila, the outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives, as Chief of Staff.

Akume, who was sworn in by the President on Wednesday at the Aso Villa, served as Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs during the second term of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Before Akume and Gbajabiamila were appointed, it was widely believed that the former governor of Kaduna State would receive one of the positions, given his closeness to the President during the election campaign.

Sani, presumably referring to remarks attributed to El-Rufai on the Islamisation agenda, stated that Tinubu had “avoided a poisonous knife” by removing the former governor from the two positions he deemed “crucial.”

“Had Tinubu appointed ‘Mr Over Sabi’ as SGF or Chief of Staff, he would have sown the seeds of discord between the President and the Vice President by allowing him to speak and move as if he were more important than the two. “Tinubu avoided a poisoned blade,” Sani tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.

El-Rufai was allegedly quoted in a viral video on social media as saying that the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the Kaduna governorship election would remain in place for the next 20 years.

In the video, the former governor, who spoke in Hausa, also asserted that Muslim dominance was being replicated at the national level and that President Bola Tinubu’s victory had silenced his critics, namely the Christian Association of Nigeria.
