Alleged UTME Forgery: Student Denies Accusations, Claims Printed Result from JAMB Portal.

In a recent development regarding the case of Ejikeme Mmesoma, the 16-year-old student from Anglican Girls Secondary School in Nnewi, Anambra State, who was accused of inflating her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, she has come forward to defend herself against the allegations. Mmesoma asserts that her result was printed directly from the official JAMB portal.

Earlier this week, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) disclosed that Mmesoma had manipulated her UTME result by forging a text message sent to her from JAMB.

Dr Fabian Benjamin, the spokesperson for JAMB, explained in an exclusive interview that Mmesoma had tampered with the score of a 2021 UTME candidate named Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle, changing it from 138 to 362 and appending her own bio to the result.

Dr Benjamin further revealed that Mmesoma’s actual UTME result, as received via SMS through the designated shortcode 55019, was 249. She had altered the message to mislead others into believing that her legitimate result was 362. Benjamin emphasized that his statements were based on JAMB’s investigation into the matter.

In response, Mmesoma has denied the accusations and presented her side of the story. According to her, she printed her result directly from the JAMB portal and asserts that she is not capable of forging her result. Mmesoma described herself as a consistently excellent student, having achieved first position throughout her primary school years.

Following the allegations, Mmesoma was reportedly invited to the police station, where her statement was taken, and she was informed that an ongoing investigation was underway. She expressed her distress over the incident, stating that there must be a problem somewhere leading to the misunderstanding.
