In the Senate, an uproar ensued on Tuesday following a television interview allegedly given by Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC – Edo North), where he seemingly accused Senators of the 9th National Assembly of looting their offices at the end of their tenure in June 2023.

Senator Solomon Adeola (APC – Ogun West) moved a point of order, expressing that his privilege was breached by Oshiomhole’s accusation. He called on Oshiomhole to apologize to the Senate for his statement.
Senator Adamu Aliero (PDP – Kebbi Central) also supported Adeola’s stance, insisting that Oshiomhole should apologize.

In light of the revelation, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip of the Senate, proposed moving into an executive session to discuss the “sensitive” matter. However, the Senate became rowdy as some senators opposed the idea of a closed-door session.
When the motion to go into an executive session was put to a voice vote, Senators opted to discuss the matter openly in plenary, voting against the executive session.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio called on Oshiomhole to approach the chair, and after a brief discussion, requested Oshiomhole to state his side of the matter.
Oshiomhole apologized for his comment, explaining that he had intended to defend the Senate during the referenced television interview, rather than indicting Senators of the 9th Senate for looting their offices.
