Nigerian Labour Congress Vows to Protest Worker Neglect in Imo State.
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has declared its intention to rally its members and descend upon Imo State on Wednesday, November 1, to voice their concerns regarding what they allege is the state government’s failure to prioritize workers’ welfare.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, made this announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday. Ajaero accused Governor Hope Uzodimma of disregarding previous agreements with the union, which included unresolved issues like the non-payment of 20 months’ salary arrears to workers.

Furthermore, Ajaero claimed that the Imo State Government had been unjustly declaring workers and pensioners as ghost workers, leading to the withholding of their gratuities.
According to Ajaero’s revelations, approximately 10,000 pensioners have been wrongfully labeled as ghost pensioners, resulting in over 22 months of unpaid pensions. In addition, about 11,000 workers have been branded as ghost workers by the Imo State Government.
The NLC President also expressed his dismay at the state government’s non-compliance with the national minimum wage, highlighting that Governor Uzodimma has shown reluctance to engage in social dialogue and collective bargaining to address these issues.
