NLC President Urges Collective Effort for New National : Embracing Unity in the Struggle

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Mr Joe Ajaero, emphasized the collective nature of the negotiation and implementation of a new national minimum wage during the “International Lenin Centenary” Conference in Abuja on Monday.

Ajaero stressed that this struggle is not exclusive to organized labor but is a shared endeavor for all. Speaking against the backdrop of Leninism, he highlighted the historical relevance of the Russian Revolution of 1917, emphasizing the framework it provided for a socialist state, focusing on the class struggle and the need for a revolutionary vanguard to address the concerns of the working class.

Ajaero called for unity, emphasizing that building collective power was crucial in escaping oppression and exploitation. He urged a collaborative effort to build strong resistance against forces seeking to deny opportunities for societal change.

“As we prepare to negotiate the national minimum wage this year, let us not see it as a struggle for the NLC and TUC but a collective struggle,” Ajaero stated.

He invited everyone to join hands from negotiation to implementation, asserting that only through collective action could they overcome challenges posed by those advocating meager wages.

The NLC president acknowledged the need for a Living Wage and emphasized the strength derived from standing together. “Comrades remember, when we stand alone, our chances are slim but when we stand together, we can achieve our collective interests,” he urged.

Ajaero also addressed the necessity of political re-strategizing, urging vigilance to understand the connections between workplace complexities and class exploitations in society. He questioned the divisions hindering collective action and called for a united political front to project ideals and creatively take over the reins of power.

“In the spirit of Leninism, I invite you to join us. In remembrance of this great framework, I invite all men and women who are prepared to be beaten for the sake of workers and the poor among others,” Ajaero declared.
