Federal Government Distances Itself from Rivers State Political Crisis

The Tinubu-led Federal Government has officially disassociated itself from the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, involving Governor Similaye Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the presidential villa in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, addressed the media. He emphasized that the federal government had no role in inciting or creating the conflict.

Responding to queries regarding Nyesom Wike’s position as a member of the federal cabinet, Idris clarified, “He is a federal cabinet member; he is involved in the situation in the state. That cannot be a federal government position. How can it be the federal government’s position?”

Idris reiterated the government’s commitment to the well-being of all states, stating that the federal government strives for peace and tranquility across Nigeria. However, he underscored that the issues in Rivers State are politically rooted and not instigated by the federal government.

Regarding Asari Dokubo’s assertion that President Bola Tinubu ignored the situation in Rivers State, Idris categorized Dokubo’s message as advisory.

He clarified that advisory remarks don’t imply federal government involvement in the crisis, emphasizing that it originated from the political landscape in Rivers State.

He concluded by emphasizing the government’s interest in maintaining peace and stability nationwide, including in Rivers State, while reiterating that the federal government played no part in the genesis of the issue.

The statement by Minister Idris highlights the government’s stance on the matter, distancing itself from the political rift in Rivers State, while affirming its commitment to promoting harmony and stability in all regions of the country.
