Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has unveiled that his removal from the position had the tacit approval of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Oshiomhole made this revelation at the launch of the book “APC and Transition Politics” by Salihu Lukman in Abuja on Tuesday.

During the event, Oshiomhole recounted the events that culminated in his ousting as the National Chairman of the ruling party.

Contrary to expectations, he asserted that Buhari chose to remain aloof and refrained from intervening to thwart the orchestrated opposition mounted by some governors.

Oshiomhole painted a picture of Buhari as a president who, even in the face of internal party crises, maintained a stance of non-intervention.

The former National Chairman cautioned the current APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, advising him to brace himself for similar challenges as governors might employ the same tactics against him.

Addressing Ganduje directly, Oshiomhole stated, “Chairman sir, if you have not faced it already, you will face it. The only difference is if the president decides to intervene and moderate. In my case, we had a president who was not ready to intervene.”

The former Edo State governor’s revelation sheds light on the complexities and power dynamics within the APC leadership during his tenure.

Oshiomhole’s assertion that Buhari’s silent approval allowed the governors to proceed with the removal indicates a unique political landscape where party leaders may have to navigate internal challenges with limited presidential intervention.

In a surprising twist, Oshiomhole also disclosed that the APC provided substantial financial support to the “O to ge” movement in Kwara State, contributing N800 million. This backing played a pivotal role in the party’s triumph in the state.

Oshiomhole’s revelations not only provide insights into the inner workings of the APC but also raise questions about the role of presidential intervention in party disputes and leadership changes.

As the party continues to evolve, the dynamics between governors and the national leadership remain a key factor in shaping its future.
