Shehu Sani Urges Caution as Football Fans Face Fatal Consequences

In the wake of the recent tragedy during the Super Eagles’ semi-final match against Bafana Bafana, former Federal lawmaker Shehu Sani has issued a stark warning to Nigerian women, urging them to take precautions to prevent their husbands from facing fatal consequences while engrossed in football matches.

At least five individuals lost their lives on Wednesday night during the tense African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash between Nigeria and South Africa. Among the casualties were notable figures, including Dr Cairo Ojougboh, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and Samuel, a corps member serving in Adamawa State.

Shehu Sani, a member of the Eighth Assembly, emphasized the role women play in safeguarding their husbands’ well-being during such high-stakes matches.

He suggested extreme measures, advising women to turn off power meters and sabotage generators if they harbor doubts about their husbands’ health.

“If your husband loves watching football on live TV and you are doubtful about his health status, just turn off the power meter and switch off, and don’t forget to sabotage the generator,” Sani tweeted on Friday.

The Super Eagles, expressing their condolences, observed a minute of silence for the victims and offered prayers for their souls during a poignant moment.

As the team prepares for the final against the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire on Sunday, Nigerians collectively hope to avert any recurrence of such tragic incidents.
