During his address to the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Bola Tinubu emphasized that Africa is determined to prevent the recurrence of past coups on the continent. Tinubu reaffirmed Africa’s commitment to promoting democracy and upholding the rule of law.

As previously reported by our correspondent. Tinubu was elected as the Chairman of the League of the ECOWAS Presidents. This appointment took place during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the regional bloc, which was held in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, on Sunday afternoon.

In his speech, Tinubu emphasized that Africa is determined to prevent a series of coups on the continent. He stated that Africa will prioritize democracy, working closely with organizations like the African Union, as well as extending this commitment to the European Union, including Britain and America.

Tinubu acknowledged that democracy is a challenging system of governance but asserted that it is the best form of government and something that all aspire to.

Following the handover of documents from the outgoing chairman, President Umaro Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, Tinubu made these remarks. The ECOWAS Chairmanship is a rotational position held by one of the heads of state or government of the member countries for a one-year tenure.
