Ondo State is preparing for a change in leadership following the tragic passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. The state’s acting governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is set to be sworn in as the substantive governor today.

A reliable source at the state House of Assembly revealed that Aiyedatiwa, currently out of the state, is expected to return in time for the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 4 p.m. The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Olusegun Odusola, will administer the oath of office.

The announcement of Governor Akeredolu’s demise was made by the Information and Orientation Commissioner, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, who described him as an “extraordinary leader.” Akeredolu, who held the position of Governor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), passed away in Germany, where he was undergoing medical treatment for complications arising from protracted prostate cancer.

The Ondo State Government conveyed its deep gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support during Akeredolu’s illness. The statement also mentioned that further details about the funeral arrangements would be released by the family and the state government.
