In a recent transition of leadership, former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje assumed the role of National Chairman, while Senator Ajibola Basiru took over as National Secretary. This transition followed the resignations of their predecessors, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Apart from these changes, other members of the NWC, including Senator Abubakar Kyari and Dr. Beta Edu, were either nominated as ministers by President Bola Tinubu or had resigned. The shifting dynamics within the party necessitated the filling of these vacant positions.

According to a party source, the NEC ceded powers to the NWC at a meeting held on August 3. Subsequently, the administrative organ was directed to initiate the process of filling the vacant positions. The State Executive Committee, which produced the former officers, nominated candidates to fill these vacancies in line with the directive.

The party adhered to a zoning system established prior to the April 2022 National Convention, following Article 31.5 of the APC Constitution. This article outlines procedures for filling vacancies within the party hierarchy.
