In a troubling incident, bandits carried out an abduction in the early hours of Saturday, targeting the district head of Ruwan Rana in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Magaji Makau, and five other individuals. Tragically, one person lost their life during the attack.

According to an eyewitness, Mohammed Musa, who is an indigene of the area, the bandits, riding motorcycles, entered Ruwan Rana town in the early hours of Saturday. The criminals began their assault around 3 a.m., discharging gunfire indiscriminately. Subsequently, they went from house to house, where they abducted the district head and five other prominent community members.

Musa further revealed that one person who resisted the abduction was fatally shot by the assailants.

“We heard gunshots around 3 a.m., and everyone went into hiding because we knew that the bandits were there for abduction,” Musa recounted. “They went from house to house and abducted five people, including our district head. They shot one person who refused to be abducted and later retreated into the forest.

It was only in the morning that Musa, and other community members discovered that the district head, Alhaji Makau, was among the victims.

Hon. Hamisu Faru, a member of the state House of Assembly representing the affected area, expressed his deep concern over the incident. He assured the public that efforts were underway to rescue the district head and the other five individuals.

“The security agents are making efforts to rescue the district head and the other five persons,” Hon. Faru confirmed.

As of the time of reporting, the Zamfara State police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, was unavailable for comment. The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges facing the region and the urgent need for concerted efforts to address these issues and ensure the safety of the people.
