In a significant legal development, the Federal Government has taken a bold step by filing 20 new charges against the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, in Abuja. Simultaneously, the government has applied to withdraw the existing “illegal possession of firearms” case against Emefiele that it had previously filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar, revealed that the decision to file fresh charges is linked to the outcome of further investigations into the case.
The new charges, totaling 20 counts, have been lodged with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja. While the exact nature of these charges has not been fully disclosed, one of them notably accuses Emefiele of “conferring unlawful advantages.”
