Ministerial nominees screened so far. 

In a crucial step towards forming a new government, the Nigerian Senate began the evaluation process for the first group of 28 ministerial nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu.

The evaluation process took place during a plenary session on Monday, which commenced at approximately 12:41 pm, upon the arrival of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During the session, 14 of the nominees were screened, with a mix of seasoned politicians and fresh faces among those screened.

Among the notable nominees were Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State; Abubakar Kyari from Borno State; Nkiruka Onyejeocha from Abia State; Bello Muhammad from Sokoto State; Sani Abubakar Danladi from Taraba State; and Badaru Abubakar from Jigawa State.

In addition to them, the Senate also interviewed Joseph Utsev from Benue State; Olubunmi Tunji Ojo from Ondo State; Betta Edu from Cross River State; Uju Kennedy Ohaneye from Anambra State; Abubakar Momoh from Edo State; John Enoh from Cross River State; Iman Suleiman Ibrahim from Nasarawa State; and Yusuf Maitama Tuggar from Bauchi State.

 

Notably, former senators among the nominees were accorded special consideration and allowed to take a bow and leave, given their previous experience in the legislative body. On the other hand, the remaining nominees underwent thorough scrutiny by the senators, as they sought to determine the candidates’ suitability for the ministerial positions.

Following the rigorous screening process, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion for the Senate to return to plenary and report on the progress made during the evaluation. This motion received the secondment of Senate Minority Leader, Darlington Nwokocha, and was unanimously carried by the Senate.

 

In light of the proceedings, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, adjourned the plenary session until Tuesday, allowing time for further deliberations and considerations regarding the remaining ministerial nominees.
