Gunmen Attack Senator Chris Uba’s Convoy, Killing Security Operatives

A convoy believed to belong to Chris Uba, a prominent figure in Anambra politics and former senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, was attacked by unknown gunmen last night.

The attack resulted in the tragic killing of two security operatives assigned to the politician.

The assailants targeted the convoy, riddling vehicles with bullets. Fortunately, Chris Uba managed to escape unharmed as he was traveling in a bulletproof vehicle. However, the police officers accompanying him were not as fortunate, losing their lives in the line of duty.

Val Ozigbo, a politician and a Labour Party chieftain, narrowly escaped the attack. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when Uba’s convoy encountered the gunmen stationed at UGA junction, leading to a fierce shootout.

“We witnessed what happened. Chris Uba’s convoy ran into the men who were stationed at UGA junction, leading to a shootout. Uba was able to escape because he was riding in a bulletproof vehicle, but the policemen were not so lucky as they were killed,” a source reported.

Val Ozigbo, traveling with his family, took evasive action when he noticed the aggressive approach of another convoy.

The attackers later engaged the convoy that belonged to Uba at UGA junction, resulting in the tragic loss of two police officers’ lives.

It is reported that the assailants had intentions to kidnap the politician. While many were injured in the attack, it remains unclear if any individuals were abducted.

The Anambra State Police Command, in response to the incident, has launched a thorough manhunt for the attackers.

The command, through its spokesperson DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, released a statement providing details of the incident and the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The gang which disguised in military fatigue and seemed to be on a kidnap mission were jolted on seeing two armed Police officers approaching their direction.

They opened fire on the officers who had moved ahead of the convoy they were escorting to decongest traffic gridlock. Other personnel returned fire, careful not to hit many motorists who were in traffic, forcing the bandits to flee,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased officers and the Enugu State Police Command. He emphasized the commitment to ensuring the attackers face justice, urging all officers and men to remain vigilant.

The police force is set to employ technology to track down the criminals responsible for the attack on police personnel.

The Commissioner assured that the supreme sacrifice made by the officers would not be in vain, emphasizing the need for heightened efforts in securing the people of Anambra State.
