Gunmen abduct two Bauchi rulers, kill one person

 

Between Saturday night and early Sunday morning, the village heads of Balma and Unguwan Bakutunbe in the Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State were abducted from their respective homes.

Their abduction follows the kidnapping of two Fulani men in Ningi LGA last week: Alhaji Malami in Ware Ware village and Alhaji Buba Kwancikwaniya in Yelwa village.

According to information gathered by  nEjes Gist News Nigeria, the most recent incidents occurred over a brief period of time.

Gunmen reportedly stormed the villages, fired randomly to frighten the locals, abducted the two traditional rulers, and fatally shot one individual.

During a phone call with journalists, a resident of Balma who wished to remain anonymous stated that unidentified gunmen stormed the village at 11 p.m. and made their way directly to Sarki’s home, firing randomly to frighten people away.

 

The source claimed that after the gunmen abducted the village chief, Alhaji Haruna Dan OC was discovered lying in a pool of blood with a neck wound. He was transported to Ningi General Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Ya’u Gandu Maliya and Idris Mai Anguwa, two Mai Anguwa (neighbourhood leaders), were allegedly kidnapped by gunmen who allegedly stormed Bakutunbe on the same Saturday night.

Supposedly, the kidnappers demanded N8 million ransom for each of Mai Anguwa and Maliya.

SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Bauchi State Police Command, confirmed the abduction of Alhaji Hussaini Saleh, the village head of Balma, and added that Haruna Jibrin was shot in the head by the suspected kidnappers.

 

The police spokesperson, who was unable to confirm whether the victim was alive or dead, stated: “Right now, police in the Ningi Division are searching the bush to determine how they can rescue the abducted village head.”
