Hungary President Resigns Amidst Outrage Over Controversial Pardon in Child Sexual Abuse Case
Hungary president, Katalin Novak, has resigned from office following widespread public outcry over her decision to pardon a man convicted in a child sexual abuse case. The 46-year-old leader, who held the presidency since 2022, faced mounting pressure and protests in Budapest demanding her resignation.
In a televised message on Saturday, President Novak acknowledged her mistake, stating, “I issued a pardon that caused bewilderment and unrest for many people. I made a mistake.”

The controversial decision to grant clemency to a man convicted of covering up crimes committed by a sexual predator at a state-run children’s home sparked unprecedented political scandal in Hungary.
