The head of JAMB stated that it was necessary to hold discussions with the vice chancellors due to the unique characteristics of each university and the varying responses received from them on the subject.

According to the most recent advisory on the procedures for emergency transfers of returning students, each of them is required to complete a retroactive registration with the Federal Ministry of Education, visit the returnee application page on IBASS, which is accessible from the JAMB website and upload their registration slips, and complete the transfer of personal data, which would include: name, NIN, telephone number, active e-mail address, and current university.

In addition, under the new procedures, returnee students would select their preferred university and programme and upload scanned copies of their current university admission letter, transcript, passport data page, and a sworn affidavit attesting to the authenticity of uploaded documents.

The returnee-students are instructed to click SUBMIT to proceed to their preferred university, which will receive a notification and an IBASS email on the application for credential evaluation. If the returnee is determined to be admissible, he or she is notified of the admission’s status.

Therefore, successful returnee students would be directed via email and SMS to any JAMB office to complete the inter-university transfer application in person.

The registrar emphasized in a statement by JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs, Fabian Benjamin, that the emergency meeting was convened to develop uniform standards and minimum acceptable benchmarks for the proposed absorption in accordance with global best practices.

He also stated that each university’s Senate has the authority to decide on university transfers and does not need to wait for JAMB to initiate such transfers.

According to him, the purpose of the meeting with the stakeholders was to present the critiquable modalities and solicit input.

Oloyede urged the vice chancellors to heed the earlier advisory sent to their universities regarding the procedures for processing applications for international and domestic inter-university transfers.

The head of JAMB stated that the current advisory on returnees did not supersede the previous one, but rather served to reinforce it by strengthening the transfer procedures.

The registrar urged the vice chancellors to be vigilant and carefully examine the certificates submitted to their institutions in order to avoid any pitfalls that could jeopardize their well-earned reputation.
