INEC Announces Suspension Of Sokoto REC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has immediately suspended Dr. Nura Ali from her position as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Sokoto State.
On Monday, INEC Secretary Rose Orlaran-Anthony sent a letter to the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner and Administrative Secretary informing them of the suspension.
According to the letter, Dr. Nura Ali is prohibited from entering the Commission’s Sokoto State office until further notice.
The suspension could be related to recent charges of irregularities in the state’s most recent election.
Hajiya Aliyu Kangiwa, the Administrative Secretary, has been instructed to assume complete control of INEC in Sokoto State.
In a recent meeting with state RECs as part of the preparation for the impending governorship elections, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmoud Yakubu committed to deal with any staff or ad-hoc personnel of the commission who contributed to the flaws of the presidential election.
