Dana Air crash latest update as airline takes action

Dana Airlines has halted the operation of its aircraft bearing registration number 5N BKI, following an incident where it skidded off the runway at the domestic wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Tuesday morning.

 

According to reports gathered by LEADERSHIP, the aircraft veered off course due to the wet surface of the runway caused by heavy rain earlier in the day in Lagos.

The flight had originated from Abuja, carrying 83 passengers and flight crew members.

 

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has dispatched investigators to the scene of the incident.

In a press release issued by Dana Air’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Ezenwa, it was confirmed that all 83 passengers and crew members disembarked safely without any injuries or panic, thanks to the professional handling of the situation by the crew.

Ezenwa stated, “Dana Air regrets to inform the public of a runway incursion involving one of our aircraft, registration number 5N BKI, which was flying from Abuja to Lagos, on Tuesday 23rd April, 2024. We are relieved to confirm that all 83 passengers and crew onboard the flight disembarked safely without injuries or scare as the crew handled the situation with utmost professionalism.”

 

He further mentioned that the incident has been reported to relevant safety agencies, and the aircraft involved has been grounded by the airline’s maintenance team for further investigation.

“We wish to reassure our passengers that their safety will always be our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Ezenwa added.
