Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja is the new Chief of Army Staff of the . He was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023, to replace Lt-Gen Faruk Yahaya, who was retired from the military.

 

Major General Taoreed Lagbaja Biography. 

Lagbaja was born in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State on February 28, 1968. He attended Local Authority Teachers College Demonstration School Osogbo between 1973 – 1979. He then attended St Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, from 1979 – 1984. He obtained West African School Certificate (Advanced Level) from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, from 1984 to 1986.

In 1987, Lagbaja was admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 39th Regular Course. He was commissioned as 2Lt on September 19, 1992 into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps.

Lagbaja has held several command and staff positions in the Nigerian Army. He has served as a Platoon Commander, Company Commander, Battalion Commander, Brigade Commander, and Division Commander. He has also served as an instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy and the Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

Lagbaja is a graduate of the Nigerian Defence Academy, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Geography. He also holds a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College.

 

Lagbaja is a recipient of several military awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Star, the Meritorious Service Star, and the Long Service Medal.
