Tragedy Strikes as Ambush and Kill Troops in ’s Wushishi Local Government Area

In a devastating turn of events, the , Lt-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, is en route to the Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger following a deadly ambush by bandits that resulted in the loss of many troops’ lives.

The ambush occurred on Monday, leaving the nation in mourning for the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.


Details surrounding the attack are still emerging, but initial reports indicate that a significant number of troops lost their lives during the ambush.

Additionally, there are unconfirmed reports circulating that suggest the bandits may have been responsible for a Nigerian Air Force aircraft The Air Force’s official stance on these reports remains uncertain as they have neither confirmed nor debunked them.


Brig. Gen. Onyema , Director of Army Public Relations, offered some insight into the tragic incident during an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday.

While he confirmed the existence of casualties among the troops, he refrained from providing specific details. He emphasized that, at this time, the focus should be on supporting the families of the fallen soldiers, rather than fixating on the number of casualties.

Nwachukwu expressed the valor of the fallen soldiers, stating, “Our gallant patriots paid the supreme price when they ran into an ambush staged by insurgents.

They were courageous till the end. They stood their ground and defended our great country with their lives.”

He further revealed that the Chief of Army Staff was on a pre-scheduled operational tour of the North-West Operations theater to assess and bolster ongoing operations when the tragic incident occurred.


Lt-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja’s immediate response is to motivate and encourage the troops in the affected formation. Nwachukwu stated, “He is currently headed to the affected formation to encourage the troops.”
