FBI Raid Leads to Fatal Shooting of Man Who Posted Threats Against President Biden.

In a dramatic turn of events, a man who had posted violent threats against and other officials online was fatally shot during an FBI raid on Wednesday. The incident unfolded as agents sought to execute an arrest warrant on Craig Robertson at his residence in Utah, just hours before President Biden’s scheduled visit to the state.

A criminal complaint revealed that Robertson had utilized Facebook to convey threats against President Biden and a prosecutor involved in pursuing criminal charges against former President Donald Trump. The FBI has chosen not to divulge additional information at this time.

The raid occurred around 06:15 local time in Provo, approximately 40 miles (65 km) south of Salt Lake City. According to the criminal complaint, Robertson’s Facebook posts included images of firearms and explicit threats to assassinate President Biden, as well as Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney leading an inquiry into a hush-money payment made by Trump to an adult film star. The threats also extended to US Attorney General Merrick Garland and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Robertson’s Facebook content exhibited a disturbing pattern of violent rhetoric, with one post stating: “I hear Biden is coming to Utah. Digging out my old ghillie suit and cleaning the dust off the M24 sniper rifle.” This post was among numerous others that featured violent messages and images of weaponry on two separate Facebook accounts belonging to Robertson.

The sequence of events leading to Robertson’s encounter with federal agents traces back to March when he posted a threat against Mr. Bragg on Truth Social, a social network owned by former President Trump. The company promptly alerted the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center, initiating their attention to Robertson. Following a visit by FBI agents, Robertson dismissed the post as a “dream,” curtly ending the conversation by stating, “We’re done here! Don’t return without a warrant!”

Subsequent posts by Robertson showcased him dressed in sniper camouflage and continued to make threats towards public officials. The threat-laden messages persisted as recently as Tuesday, with Robertson ominously posting: “Perhaps Utah will become famous this week as the place a sniper took out Biden the Marxist.”

President Biden’s scheduled visit to Utah, which will mark his first visit to the state since taking office, includes plans to visit a veterans’ hospital and attend a fundraising event in Park City on Thursday. The incident highlights the intersection between online threats and real-world actions, sparking discussions on the delicate balance between freedom of expression and public safety.
