The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, cautioned against such attacks in a video posted on the NPF’s Facebook page on Friday night, which was viewed by our correspondent. He noted that the police would resist such attacks.

Adejobi stated, “We complain that banks don’t care about us, yet we set fire to their facilities and destroy ATMs. How do you expect them to serve you better if their facilities have been destroyed?

“I believe we need to educate ourselves on the applicable legal provisions. You do not attack banks, ATMs, or financial institutions. It is illegal and comparable to armed robbery. If caught in the act, you will be treated as a robber with a weapon.

“Even the ATM, despite its diminutive size, is protected by security agencies, particularly the police. It is infrastructure that cannot be attacked. If you do so, it is assumed that you intend to commit a robbery,” Adejobi warned.

He continued, “A demonstration must be coordinated. We can be more courteous and effective.

“And these men who come out are not interested in demanding money from the government or making any other requests.” It is only for shoplifting. It is evident from the video clips that these men are there to cause trouble. They have objectives.”
