NJC recommends CJN’s son, others for appointment as judges

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has put forward the recommendation of Olukayode Ariwoola Jr., the son of Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, for a judicial appointment as a Judge of the Federal High Court. The announcement came after the 103rd meeting of the Council, which was presided over by the Chief Justice himself in Abuja.

Alongside Ariwoola Jr., 22 other candidates who successfully passed the screening and interview conducted by the Council were also recommended for positions on the Federal High Court bench. The Director of Information of the Council, Soji Oye, released a statement providing details of the recommendations made by the Interview Committee.

The statement read, “The National Judicial Council…considered the list of candidates presented by its Interview Committee and at the end of deliberation, recommended the under-listed names of successful candidates as Head of Court and other Judicial Officers for the Federal High Court and the Sharia Courts of Appeal of Kaduna and Kano State.”

Among the recommended candidates for Federal High Court Judges are Ekerete Akpan, Hussaini Dadan-Garba, Egbe Joshua, Anyalewa Onoja-Alapa, Aishatu Ibrahim, Ogazi Nkemakonam, Ogundare Olayiwola, Onah Sergius, Hauwa Buhari, Ibrahim Kala, Hauwa Yilwa, Amina Mohammed, Sharon Ishaya, Chituru Wigwe-Oreh, Musa Kakaki, Owoeye Oluseyi, Abiodun Adeyemi, Agbaje Adetutu, Salim Ibrahim, Dipeolu Isaac, Ariwoola Olukayode Jr., Abdullahi Dan-Ige, and Mashkur Salisu.

Additionally, the statement mentioned that Kadi Muhammad Aminu Danjuma is set to be appointed as the Grand Kadi for Kaduna State. Once the NJC’s recommendations receive approval from the President and the respective State Governors, as well as confirmation by the State Houses of Assembly, all the recommended candidates, including the 23 Federal High Court nominees, will be sworn in.

In addition to the recommendations for the Federal High Court, the NJC also sought the appointment of one Kadi for Kaduna State and four Kadis for the Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal. The four individuals recommended for the Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal are Muhammad Kadem, Salisu Isa, Isa Sa’id, and Aliyu Kani.
