In a recent development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to promptly announce and distribute the federal government palliatives intended for the people of the State.
The party has expressed concern that the palliatives, designated to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal, have remained undistributed for the past 12 days.
According to a statement issued by Tajudeen Lawal, the State chairman of the APC, the party has learned that the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, dispatched five trailer loads of rice and other essential items to Osun State.
However, the State government has yet to publicize or initiate the distribution process.”The silence from Governor Adeleke regarding the palliatives is puzzling,” the statement read.
“Neighboring States have already distributed their share of palliatives, leaving us to question why Osun State is lagging behind.”
The APC also raised concerns about the possibility of the rice palliatives being diverted by the State government, as allegations and speculations about the matter have been circulating.
The party warned that such an occurrence could damage the credibility of the current administration.
Governor Adeleke’s administration, however, has responded to these allegations, labeling them as propaganda by mischief makers.
Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, clarified that the Federal government had sanctioned a total of three thousand bags of rice palliatives for Osun State.
Out of these, two thousand and four hundred bags have already been received, with the final batch of six hundred bags expected to arrive soon.

The State government has emphasized that the distribution of the palliatives will commence as soon as the last batch is received, which is anticipated to occur by the end of the week.
Dr. B.T Salaam, the Commissioner for Special Duties, is overseeing the distribution process, ensuring that templates and procedures are in place to ensure equitable allocation.
This situation highlights the importance of transparent and timely distribution of government assistance during challenging times.
The APC’s concerns echo the need for efficient management of relief efforts, while the State government’s response emphasizes their commitment to fulfilling their responsibility to the citizens of Osun State.
