Peter Obi Lawyers Are Very Intelligent But… – Professor Okey Ikechukwu

Professor Okey Ikechukwu commented on the eligibility issue raised by the Labour Party in their petition against Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential elections.

He mentioned that it might not be enough grounds to nullify Tinubu’s win, and that Tinubu’s lawyers are relying on the fact that INEC will not withdraw the certificate that enabled Tinubu to contest in the elections. He also noted that the Labour Party’s lawyers are intelligent, and that it would be interesting to see how the situation unfolds.

During an interview on Arise Tv, Professor Ikechukwu stated that he was not fully convinced that the eligibility issue was a strong enough ground for the petition. He pointed out that there was a strong moral component to the argument, but questioned whether it would hold up in court.

He mentioned that only WAEC or a university council had the power to revoke a certificate, and that if someone had been working for five years, they could still be on the staff list as long as their certificate had not been invalidated.

He acknowledged that the Labour Party’s lawyers were intelligent, but noted that Tinubu’s lawyers were not dull either. He suggested that they were banking on the fact that the eligibility issue would not hold up in court, and that it remained to be seen how the situation would be successfully challenged by the Labour Party’s lawyers.
