Peter Obi Promises To Invest In Human Capital Development Following Election Loss

 

Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the February 25 election, has stated that it is time for him to continue his philanthropic efforts.

 

In a series of tweets published on his verified Twitter account on Thursday, the former governor of Anambra pledged to resume his charitable contributions to schools and hospitals, which had been put on hold due to political campaigns.

Obi stated that, following the conclusion of the elections in 2023, his intervention in schools and hospitals was part of his efforts to invest in human capital development in the country and enhance the infrastructure of such public institutions.

Prior to running for office, the LP candidate stated that he visited at least three hospitals and secondary schools per month to provide support.

Obi also announced a donation of N10 million to Paul University in Awka, the state capital of Anambra. Paul University is owned by the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

 

He stated, “This is a visit I would have made since January, but as you are aware, I have been engaged in campaigns. I did not want my work in the education and health fields to be entangled with .

“Every month, I make an effort to visit at least three hospitals and three secondary schools. As you will later see, the cheque I have for you was issued in January of this year.

 

“This Paul University is one of the institutions that occasionally benefits from my intervention in a small way.

“I believe that in order to solve this country’s problems, we must invest in human capital development, which includes investments in health and education. For this reason, I am constantly intervening in these sectors throughout Nigeria.

 

“Since the elections are over and I am no longer campaigning for votes, now is the time to demonstrate my commitment to my country by continuing my work.
