In a joint statement, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Geoffrey Onyeama and Sadiya Faruk, urged parents to advise their children to remain calm as concerted efforts were made to evacuate all Nigerians stranded in Sudan.

The statement, which was signed by the permanent secretaries of the two ministries, also advised Nigerian students to remain in contact with the Nigerian Embassy in Sudan for further instructions.

Due to the inherent dangers, the statement warned all Nigerian nationals against making the treacherous journey to the borders on their own.
