The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, voiced his opposition towards President Tinubu directives for Ondo State Governor Akeredolu to delegate power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, deeming the move both illegal and unacceptable.

The directive, revealed during a meeting called by President Tinubu to address the leadership crisis in Ondo, cited Governor Akeredolu’s deteriorating health condition as the primary reason for the power transfer.

Notably, the transfer is set to be facilitated through an electronic signature (e-signature) to bypass physical documentation.

Omoleye Sowore, in a statement on Tuesday, vehemently opposed the president’s instruction, insisting that the State House of Assembly must adhere to legal procedures established by law.

He argued that the governor’s alleged incapacity, preventing him from signing official letters, should be grounds for impeachment.

“The information circulating that @officialABAT is asking for ailing Ondo State Gov. Akeredolu to transmit another forged letter to ‘hand over power’ to his deputy is both illegal and unacceptable,” Sowore declared.

He emphasized that the purported incapacity of Governor Akeredolu to sign a simple letter is sufficient reason to oust him from office.

Sowore concluded by announcing plans for a mass rally across Ondo State starting from Saturday, extending beyond Akure alone.

He urged citizens to participate in the demonstrations, emphasizing the collective call for Akeredolu’s resignation with the hashtag #AkeredoluMustResign.
