Three Days of Expected in Multiple Nigerian States

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather warning, predicting that at least 15 states in Nigeria will experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next three days. Additionally, 18 states are expected to encounter strong winds in the same period.

In NiMet’s latest impact-based weather forecast bulletin, which was released in Abuja, the agency outlined the weather predictions. Here are the key details:

Heavy rainfall Predictions:

From midnight to 23.59 hours on Friday, October 6, 2023, parts of Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Plateau, Taraba, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Kogi, Kwara, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun states are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

On Saturday, October 7, similar conditions are expected with chances of moderate to heavy rainfall. Affected areas include parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Cross River, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Imo, Anambra, Kogi, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Ondo, Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo states, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The outlook for Sunday, October 8, suggests that parts of Taraba, Benue, Plateau, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, and Ogun states may experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

NiMet noted that there is a low probability of temperature-related hazards across the country during this period, thanks to the expected low to moderate temperatures.

Strong Winds Expected: In addition to the rainfall, NiMet warned of strong winds affecting several states. From October 6 to October 8, 2023, states like Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Niger, Katsina, Kwara, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Gombe, Nasarawa, Plateau, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Borno, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) may experience strong winds.

Residents in these states are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
