Tragic Attacks in Plateau State: Overwhelming Loss and Sorrow
A grim air hangs over Plateau State as the scale of the recent attacks on local communities unfolds, revealing a horrifying toll. Amid conflicting numbers reported by authorities and community leaders, the extent of the devastation is staggering.
Police sources reported that a distressing count of 96 casualties emerged from the attacks, with hundreds injured.
However, the chairmen of the affected local governments, Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi, painted an even more harrowing picture, alleging a higher death toll of 155, along with over a thousand injuries.

The chairmen emphasized the possibility of the numbers rising further as villagers continue to search the bushes for the remains of those who may have perished while attempting to escape the brutal onslaught.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu swiftly reacted to the calamity, condemning the heart-wrenching attacks. Addressing the situation, Tinubu ordered security forces to apprehend the perpetrators, vowing that they would face justice for their despicable actions. He also urged immediate relief efforts and medical attention for the survivors.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang initially reported 50 deaths but revised figures from the police indicated a higher toll of 96 casualties.

However, the local government chairmen insisted on even graver figures, highlighting 155 fatalities, with Bokkos alone registering 125 deaths and Barkin-Ladi witnessing a rise to 30 from an earlier reported 17 fatalities.
In addition to the tragic loss of lives, the police reported that 221 houses were set ablaze, numerous vehicles and motorcycles burnt, and multiple villages in both affected local government areas faced the ruthless onslaught.
Efforts to assist the injured have been underway, with over 1,000 individuals rushed to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) and other medical facilities in Jos for urgent treatment.
