Tribunal Nullifies Elections of Four PDP National Assembly Members in Plateau State

Jos, Plateau State – The national and state houses of assembly elections petition tribunal, based in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, has made a significant ruling by nullifying the elections of four National Assembly members belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to a lack of party structure.

A unanimous judgment from the three-member tribunal panel, led by Justice Mohammed Tukur, declared that the PDP candidates in the state were deemed to have been invalidly nominated due to the absence of an organized party structure within the state.

The affected lawmakers in this judgment include Peter Gyendeng, who represented Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency; Musa Bagos, the representative of Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency; Beni Lar, who represented Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency, and Napoleon Bali, who held the position of representing Plateau South Senatorial District.

In light of this ruling, the beneficiaries are now Fom Dalyop and Ajang Alfred Iliya from the Labour Party, securing their positions for Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency and Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, respectively.

Vincent Bulus Venman from the All Progressives Congress (APC) has now been recognized as the representative for Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency, and Simon Lalong retains his position as the Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial Seat.

This decision by the tribunal has not been without controversy. The PDP in Plateau State expressed dissatisfaction with the panel’s ruling, highlighting a contradiction with an earlier ruling from another panel that sat on the national assembly elections petition tribunal.
