The issue was brought to the forefront when the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), , recently expressed alarm at the prevalence of cybercrime among Nigerian students.

During an event in Abuja, Olukoyede highlighted the worrisome statistic that seven out of 10 students are allegedly engaged in cyber-related activities.

However, Obi’s response delved deeper into the root causes of this phenomenon. “The question we must all ask is where the children are learning such criminality from, if not from us, the parents, especially we, the leaders,” remarked Obi during his address.

He emphasized the need for urgent action to address in Nigeria, envisioning a nation that promotes entrepreneurship, professionalism, and hard work while upholding peace and integrity.

Amidst the growing concerns, the EFCC swiftly clarified Olukoyede’s statements. In a statement on Thursday, the agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, asserted that Olukoyede’s comments had been misinterpreted.

The chairman did not claim that seven out of 10 Nigerian students are presently engaged in internet fraud. Instead, he warned that without intervention, this alarming figure might become a reality within the next decade if not been handled.
