Victor Osimhen, who plays for Nigeria and Napoli, has been named the Italian Serie A Player of the Month for January. This is the second time in his career that he has won this award.
The 29-year-old is currently the top scorer in Serie A this season with 16 goals. In January, he scored five goals and set up one to beat Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman, who is also from Nigeria.
Along with Osimhen, Luis Alberto, a midfielder for Lazio, Paulo Dybala, an attacker for Roma, and Lautaro Martnez, a forward for Inter Milan, were also nominated.

Victor Osimhen is in the best shape of his career right now, and Napoli is on the verge of winning the Serie A title for the first time since 1984. They are 13 points ahead of second-placed Inter Milan and comfortably in first place in the league table.
People are comparing the Nigerians’ impact on Napoli’s quest for the league title to that of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, who died at age 50 in 2020. Maradona helped the “Gli Azzurri” win their second-ever league title in the 1989/90 season when he led them to win the World Cup.
Osimhen’s world-class play over the last two seasons has made him a top transfer target for top clubs in Europe, including Manchester United, which is said to be willing to pay up to €112 million for the former Lille star in the coming months.
Chelsea, a fierce rival of United, is also said to be keeping an eye on the Super Eagles forward as they prepare for a possible summer transfer battle with Bayern Munich and Juventus.
The president of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, is also adamant that the Nigerian player will not be sold any time soon.
“You can’t buy him (Victor Osimhen)! People want to buy our players, but I don’t have to. We have no debts,” he told the influential German newspaper Bild on Wednesday.
