Ogun First Lady Voices Concerns Over Economic Challenges Amid Rising Petrol Prices and Naira Depreciation

Bamidele Abiodun, the First Lady of Ogun State, has raised her voice against the backdrop of growing economic difficulties faced by Nigerians, attributing the turmoil to escalating petrol prices and the weakening naira.

She expressed her concerns during the ninth annual convention of the Women Wing Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), South-West Zone, where she addressed a congregation of attendees.

At the convention, themed ‘Abounding Grace,’ Mrs. Abiodun painted a somber picture of the current situation in the country. She highlighted the anxiety felt by all sectors of society, including the wealthy, due to the unfolding economic challenges.

Mrs. Abiodun drew attention to the skyrocketing price of petrol, noting that it has surged dramatically in recent months, further straining the financial stability of individuals and families.

She expressed skepticism about the stability of petrol prices in the immediate future, suggesting that the cost could continue to rise, leading to a ripple effect on other essential commodities.

“We all know how much we were buying petrol three or four months ago. We all know how much petrol is today and we also know that it is not even steady yet,” she remarked.

Highlighting the interconnectedness of economic factors, she cautioned that a rise in fuel prices can trigger an increase in the cost of living across the board.
