Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, popularly known as Crayon, has opened up about the alleged obstruction of his football career by certain officials within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). In an exclusive interview with Cool FM, Crayon recounted his journey and revealed the challenges he faced due to corruption within the Nigerian football system.

Reflecting on his past, Crayon disclosed that he attempted to pursue a career as a professional footballer, but encountered obstacles in Nigeria’s football scene. He cited widespread corruption as a significant factor hampering his aspirations, without specifying names but mentioning that these were prominent figures within the football administration.

 

The singer’s dream to become a footballer took root after he was unable to secure a university admission, setting him on a path to explore an alternative career. Recalling his struggles, Crayon explained, “My footballing career at that time wasn’t really kicking off for me as well. I used to play football. I used to be a proper footballer.”

Despite his determination, he faced a setback during a screening event in Lagos, where he alleged that financial influences led to his dismissal by the NFF officials.

 

This disappointment left Crayon disheartened and led to a period of depression. However, his story took a turn when he transitioned to music in 2016. In 2019, Crayon gained prominence after signing with Blowtime Entertainment, a subsidiary of Mavin Records.

Crayon’s journey was marked by the pressure of being the first child and grandchild in his family, coupled with his parents’ financial instability. This pressure pushed him to navigate challenging circumstances and cope with certain personal struggles that he chose not to elaborate on.

Recently, Crayon released his debut album titled “Trench To Triumph,” featuring hits like “Ijo (Laba Laba).” The album’s release marks a significant milestone in his music career, highlighting his transition from football aspirations to becoming a well-known musician.
