Nigerian military buries 22 officers killed in Niger State. 

 

In a somber ceremony that brought the nation to a standstill, 22 brave military personnel who lost their lives in combat in Niger State were laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The emotional event took place on Friday, as family members, colleagues, and dignitaries gathered to pay their final respects to the fallen heroes.

The heartbreaking procession follows the announcement by the Defence Headquarters on August 14, which revealed the devastating loss of 36 officers who were killed in battle. These valiant soldiers had been on a mission when their helicopter was tragically shot down by insurgents in the Zungeru area of Niger State.

The fallen troops had been deployed to Kundu village in Wushishi Local Government Area in response to recent bandit attacks that had left the area terrorized. Amidst the grief and sorrow, it’s important to remember the selfless dedication that led these officers to confront danger on behalf of their fellow citizens.

 

Several of the fallen officers had already been laid to rest by their grieving families, leaving 22 individuals to be honored and interred during the poignant ceremony. The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Gwabin Musa, along with other high-ranking service chiefs, were present at the ceremony, underlining the nation’s unity in mourning and respect for the sacrifices made.
