Presidency Accuses NLC President Ajaero of Partisan Politics in Imo State
The Presidency has accused the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, of misleading workers and indulging in partisan politics in Imo State, particularly in the lead-up to the governorship election scheduled for Saturday.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, a photo was shared showing Ajaero in a meeting with Athan Achuonu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Imo State.
Onanuga expressed disappointment that the Trade Union Congress (TUC) appeared to have accepted Ajaero’s claims of championing workers’ rights in the state.

An online commentator, @DavidsOffor, had highlighted the meeting, stating, “Here is Joe Ajaero, the Partisan NLC President in a HAPPY mood with Imo State Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Athan Achuonu.
This same Ajaero has shut down Imo State because of his huge interest in seeing the unpopular Achuonu win the election on Saturday. It is time every Imolites resist the high-handedness of the labour union Leadership.
Imo State is currently without light for days now, no fuel supply, teachers and health workers have downed tools etc because Ajaero wants to raise public sympathy against the Governor, so sad.”

In response, Onanuga contended, “Joe Ajaero, with Labour governorship candidate playing partisan politics in Imo. And he claims he is fighting for all workers in the state. TUC surprisingly bought the lie.”
However, social media users raised questions about the nature of the meeting, with some suggesting that it may have been a courtesy visit that preceded the reported altercation.
Others pointed out that the presence of Ajaero’s portrait on the wall indicated that it was a formal meeting at his office.
