Governor Fubara Vows Unwavering Commitment Amid Political Tension in Rivers State
Amidst growing political tension and reported discord within Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara reaffirmed his dedication to serving the state, despite alleged sabotage and attempts to thwart his leadership.
Speaking at the combined Quarterly General Meeting of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara addressed the challenges facing the state, assuring citizens of his resolute commitment to advancing the state’s fortunes.
Asserting his resolve, Governor Fubara emphasized, “Rivers State is our collective inheritance, presently under my watch, to protect, defend, and advance as the Governor.

I will not fail in this responsibility nor will I surrender our mandate and progress to intimidation, blackmail, and deliberate sabotage.”
Fubara vowed to uphold peace and prioritize development initiatives, especially in education, healthcare, and social services, ensuring equitable distribution across the state, including rural areas.
He announced plans to allocate substantial funds in the 2024 state budget to promote universal access to quality education and healthcare.
The governor also emphasized empowering unemployed youths through skill development, entrepreneurship training, and investments in agriculture.

Urging traditional rulers to maintain integrity and courage, Governor Fubara called upon them to contribute to peacebuilding efforts and support the state’s development agenda.
Expressing support for the governor, the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, backed Fubara’s administration, urging detractors to desist from causing discord.
However, tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have resulted in political turmoil, evident in the factionalized Rivers State House of Assembly. Wike’s loyalists, allegedly led by pro-Wike lawmakers, have accused Fubara of disrupting the established political order and withholding Assembly funds.
