EFCC Arrests Former Minister Sirika Over Nigeria Air Fraud

The EFCC has detained former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, on suspicion of involvement in an alleged N8 billion fraud.

 

The investigation, initiated by the EFCC in February 2024, focuses on the activities of the aviation ministry during Sirika’s tenure, probing allegations of conspiracy, abuse of office, misappropriation of public funds, and contract inflation.

Sirika is under scrutiny for purported criminal breaches of trust and money laundering amounting to N8,069,176,864.00, reportedly linked to four aviation contracts awarded to Engirios Nigeria Limited. This company is owned by Sirika’s younger brother, Abubakar.

 

The ex-minister, central to the abortive Nigeria Air project, was taken into custody upon his arrival at the EFCC’s Federal Capital Territory Command around 1:00 pm on Tuesday.

Sources within the EFCC confirmed the arrest, stating that Sirika is currently undergoing interrogation at the EFCC office in Wuse 2, Abuja.

 

According to one source, “Sirika is being questioned regarding alleged fraudulent contracts awarded to Engirios Nigeria Limited, owned by his sibling, Abubakar Sirika.

The source added, “Hadi Sirika has been detained at our FCT facility. He is currently being questioned by EFCC investigators regarding the alleged N8,069,176,864.00 fraud involving contracts awarded by the aviation ministry.

 

The said contract fraud, totaling N8,069,176,864.00, was reportedly carried out in collaboration with his brother, Abubakar Sirika, through the latter’s company.
