AFCON 2024: Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Group A as Exciting Fixtures Unveiled

The highly anticipated draw for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been unveiled, and Nigeria’s Super Eagles find themselves in Group A alongside host nation Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea. The draw, a pivotal moment for football enthusiasts, took place at the Parc Des Expositions in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, on Thursday night.

Two football legends, Didier Drogba, the former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker, and John Mikel Obi, the former Nigerian international, were integral to the draw process. Their participation added a special touch to the event, especially when their respective nations were paired together.


The tournament will kick off on January 13, 2024, with the hosts, Ivory Coast, who were winners in 1992 and 2015, facing Guinea-Bissau in a thrilling opening match. This clash sets the tone for a month of football excitement

In addition to this exciting fixture, defending champions Senegal find themselves in Group C, where they’ll face Cameroon, Guinea, and the AFCON debutants, Gambia. Group B presents a repeat of the 2010 final as Egypt, the record holders of seven continental crowns, will square off against Ghana. Cape Verde and Mozambique complete the group, promising thrilling encounters.


Group E is another pool to watch, featuring Algeria, Tunisia, Mali, and South Africa, which adds further star quality to the tournament. AFCON semi-finalists Morocco have a relatively comfortable Group F, navigating their path alongside DR Congo, Zambia, and Tanzania.

The matches are scheduled to take place at six venues across Cote d’Ivoire, including newly constructed stadiums in Abidjan, Korhogo, and San Pedro. The continental showdown is set to captivate football fans from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
