President Tinubu Encourages for Stronger Performance

 

President has conveyed a message to the Super Eagles, urging them to elevate their performance as they enter the final stages of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. The President’s sentiments were shared through the Minister of Sports, John Enoh, during a virtual address to the players from Abuja via Zoom on Wednesday night in Abidjan.

Enoh revealed that President Tinubu, though pleased with the Super eagles team’s qualification, expressed dissatisfaction with their showing in the group stage.

“The President told me to convey that he wasn’t too impressed with the last match, but he believes that as the team progresses beyond the group stages, they will display a more impressive performance,” Enoh stated.

During the virtual meeting, team captain Ahmed Musa expressed gratitude to the sports minister for relaying the President’s message. However, Musa also extended an invitation to President Tinubu to witness their matches live, emphasizing that his presence would serve as a significant motivation for the players.

Enoh reminded the players of the President’s understanding of the intricacies of the game, emphasizing that the knockout stages offer a platform for a more captivating display. Drawing a parallel with Egypt’s journey in the 2022 tournament, he highlighted that overcoming initial struggles could lead to a remarkable finals appearance.

The Super Eagles are set to face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the last 16 of the tournament at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday.
