In a recent development, the in Abuja has ruled in favor of Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the legitimate candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial Election that took place in February 2023.

The appeal filed by Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was dismissed by the court on the grounds of lacking merit.

Back in September, the state’s Election Petitions Tribunal had already declared Akpoti-Uduagan as the victor of the Kogi Central Senatorial election and invalidated Ohere’s victory.

Tribunal Chairman, Justice K. A. Orjiako, revealed that Ohere’s results were inflated in nine polling units in the Ajaokuta Local Government Area.

He further pointed out that the Independent National Electoral Commission had reduced Natasha’s results in those areas and omitted the results of three other polling units intended for Natasha in the same LGA.

Ohere sought redress following the Tribunal’s judgment, but the Court of Appeal has now reiterated that Akpoti-Uduagan emerged as the rightful winner of the election.

Reacting to this verdict, Akpoti-Uduagan expressed her gratitude and posted, “We won the Appeal. Joy amidst tears. Thank you Kogi Central.

This is us together 🙏🏽” on her official Facebook page. This marks a significant development in the electoral process and reinforces the importance of fair and accurate representation in democratic systems.
