President Tinubu Makes Five Crucial Appointments.

President Tinubu has appointed Maj.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure (rtd), the former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), along with four others, to constitute a special committee addressing social vices in tertiary institutions.

The announcement, made through a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students’ Engagement, Hon. Sunday Asefon, aims to combat issues such as drug abuse, sexual harassment, cultism, cybercrime, and academic dishonesty affecting academic performance and personal development in students.

Asefon highlighted that these vices not only impede academic progress but also pose threats to the safety and well-being of students, casting a shadow over the vibrant environment of tertiary institutions.

The formation of the special committee underscores President Bola Tinubu’s significant commitment to the renewed hope agenda, prioritizing the safeguarding of the future of Nigerian students,” stated Asefon.

He emphasized the necessity for a comprehensive and collaborative approach to tackle the menace of social vices in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.

The committee, named the Special Committee for the Eradication of Social Vices in Tertiary Institutions (SESV-TI), comprises members from various stakeholders, including renowned educationists, student activists, and patriotic leaders.

The composition of the committee is as follows:

  • Chairman: Maj.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure (rtd), Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Nigeria Army University Biu.
  • Secretary: Maxwell Okoye.
  • Members: Prof. Jerry Ugokwe, a Professor of Legislative Studies, and Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, former Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives.
