In a disconcerting turn of events, the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Police Command has verified the looting of a government storage facility in Gwagwa by hoodlums. The perpetrators, driven by desperation, targeted the facility to pilfer essential food items.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, assuring that law enforcement officers were already on-site, actively working to regain control of the situation.

As per initial investigations, the police have apprehended several individuals linked to the looting, signaling a swift response to bring the culprits to justice.

The alarming incident unfolded on

 

Sunday, March 1, when a group of hoodlums forcibly entered the government storage facility in Gwagwa town. Reports from The Nation reveal that the looters, primarily youths, ransacked stores stocked with maize and grain. The situation escalated, leading to a prolonged spree of theft that continued unabated for several hours.

Ibrahim Alfa, a concerned resident, expressed the gravity of the situation, highlighting that the looting not only disrupted the peace but also caused a severe traffic jam on the Gwagwa-Karmo road, impacting the flow towards Dei-Dei and Jabi axis.

 

Another resident, John, shed light on the audacity of the looters, who spared nothing, including protective barriers, as they systematically stripped the warehouse of anything they deemed valuable.
