The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board () has revealed that a father and his son were apprehended by the police for impersonation during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

 

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, made this disclosure during an inspection tour of UTME centers in Kaduna, highlighting that while the 2024 examination was conducted smoothly, cases of impersonation emerged due to individuals possessing multiple National Identity Numbers (NIN).

Oloyede cautioned that individuals caught cheating during the exams would face arrest, emphasizing the board’s enhanced technological measures to detect and prevent examination malpractice. Speaking after inspecting the Kaduna State University (KASU) CBT Centre, he emphasized the consequences of cheating and urged candidates to uphold integrity in the examination process.

Furthermore, Oloyede addressed the issue of candidates missing the exam, stressing that JAMB cannot accommodate candidates who miss their scheduled exams due to personal reasons unrelated to the examination body. He warned against relying on schools or third parties for exam registration and reiterated that JAMB is not responsible for logistical challenges faced by candidates.

Regarding the need for a mega CBT Centre in Lagos, Oloyede emphasized the importance of support from highly populated states like Lagos to establish such facilities. He expressed the board’s readiness to construct mega CBT centers with state government support, citing the success of similar centers in Kaduna. Oloyede urged Lagos authorities to provide suitable land for the construction of such centers, underscoring their significance in addressing examination challenges efficiently.
