The Federal Government has sanctioned Thursday as an additional public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr festival.

Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

In the statement, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, the Honourable Minister of Interior, extended felicitations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful conclusion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation. He reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all citizens.

Initially, the government had announced Tuesday and Wednesday for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration. However, due to the non-sighting of the crescent moon on Monday, the holidays were extended.

Saudi Arabia and the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, had declared Wednesday, April 10, as Eid el-Fitr, based on the inability to sight the crescent moon.
