Top African Football Stars Nominated for 2023 African Player of the Year Award.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the list of nominees for the 2023 African Player of the Year awards, setting the stage for a thrilling competition among the continent’s top football talents. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 11, 2023, in Marrakech, Morocco, as announced by CAF on their official website.

The preliminary list of nominees was carefully compiled by a panel of CAF Technical Experts, African Football Legends, and selected media representatives, considering the performance of candidates between November 2022 and September 2023.

 

For the prestigious CAF African Player of the Year award, 30 exceptional players have been shortlisted, making this year’s competition particularly fierce. In addition, 20 players are nominated for the CAF Interclub Player of the Year, and separate categories like Coach of the Year, CAF National Team of the Year, and Club of the Year feature ten nominees each. Notably, the CAF African Goalkeeper of the Year Category for both men and women is introduced for the first time, with ten male players receiving nominations.

The final winners in each category will be determined through a voting panel that includes the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, Head Coaches, and captains of Member Associations and clubs involved in the group stages of the Interclub competitions.

As a significant addition, CAF has acknowledged the exceptional contributions of goalkeepers in football, expanding the network of winners and acknowledging their remarkable performances.

While the nominees for the Women’s categories are yet to be announced, fans are eager to see who will succeed Senegal forward and Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala, the reigning CAF African Player of the Year and CAF African Women’s Player of the Year, respectively.
